The Safety Dance - Men Without Hats

this song reminds me of freshman year at NCSU - fall 1983 - and Bruce Presnell. We went to high school together and became friends when we found out we were going to be at State together. I hung out in his suite quite a bit --- which will lead to more stories for me. I'm not really sure why I think of him when I hear it. For some reason I have a picture of him doing a dance similar to the one the guy in the video is doing.

Greatest Love Of All - Whitney Houston

Every once in a while there will be lyrics to a song that strike me deep within my soul. This song has some of those lyrics. If I could leave a legacy of thoughts or ideas or even, lyrics for my girls to always take with them....then these lyrics would be included.

I decided long ago, never to walk in anyone's shadow
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity
Because the greatest love of all
Is happening to me
I found the greatest love of all
Inside of me
The greatest love of all
Is easy to achieve
Learning to love yourself
It is the greatest love of all

I WAS MADE FOR DANCING -- Leif Garrett

Ok, so I went through my teen-y bopper phase. I have to admit that Leif Garrett was my biggest crush. Yeah, I guess I can see why. Loved this song. He was a cutie back then. Too bad he got caught up in the life and became an addict. Such a waste.

As for this song, I loved it and still love to crank it up. Even had the album! Hmmm....wait.... I think I still may have it in my collection. :)

Watch me second!

So this was Jimmy's response to the first video. Very funny. Juvenile, but funny.

Watch me first!

Well, I spent yesterday sick as a dog. I still don't feel well. I don't feel like sharing my life, but found these on youtube. Very juvenile, but very funny. Sometimes you just need to have really bad taste in comedy.

Heartbeat, It's A Lovebeat - The DeFranco Family

Yes, I went through that teeny bop music stage...and I still LOVE to hear my favorite songs from that time in my life. This song was one of those songs. I had the album, but unfornately the album was dropped on the ground and a huge chunk of it broke off. Damn! I still love listening to this song on the radio and on my itunes (gotta love itunes!)
************
Girl, when I'm alone with you
I get a feeling through and through
Telling me that love is coming on

My head starts
Spinning round and round
And I don't care
What's up or down

Cause deep in my soul
I'm out of control
When I start to hear
The sound of

(CHORUS)
A heartbeat
It's a lovebeat
And a lovebeat
Is a good vibration
Oh, a heartbeat
It's a lovebeat
And when we meet
It's a good sensation

Listen to my heart pound
Listen to my love sound

Feel it getting stronger
Can't hold back any longer

Cause a heartbeat
It's a lovebeat
And a lovebeat
Is a good vibration
Oh, a heartbeat
It's a lovebeat
And when we meet
It's a good sensation
Listen

Pictures pass before my eyes
Like a vision in disguise
Trying to explain the way I feel

And there's a movement in my mind
Like a rhythm counting time
Breaking down all my defenses
Overcoming all of my senses, oh

(CHORUS)

Listen to my heart pound
Listen to my love sound

Temperature is rising
Girl, there's just no
Disguising that a

(CHORUS) 3X to fade

The Blower's Daughter - Damien Rice

Now that I have figured this video thing in the middle, I want to put more music on!

I first heard this song while watching the movie "Closer". Great movie. Very grown up. Not for kids. Not really even for teenagers. Love this song. Hope you do too.

Lyrics:

And so it is
Just like you said it would be
Life goes easy on me
Most of the time
And so it is
The shorter story
No love, no glory
No hero in her skies

I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...

And so it is
Just like you said it should be
We'll both forget the breeze
Most of the time
And so it is
The colder water
The blower's daughter
The pupil in denial

I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off of you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes off you
I can't take my eyes...

Did I say that I loathe you?
Did I say that I want to
Leave it all behind?

I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you...
I can't take my mind off of you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind off you
I can't take my mind...
My mind...my mind...
'Til I find somebody new

Tammy - Debbie Reynolds

According to my dad, he thought of this song when he named me. He said he had imagined a very pretty girl singing this song. I kinda thought it was cool, but then when I looked up the lyrics to this song, I found out that it came out in 1957 ... several years before I was born. Its hard to believe that he carried that thought for so long and then actually named me Tammy.

Lyrics:

I hear the cottonwoods whisperin' above,
"Tammy ... Tammy ... Tammy's in love"
The ole hooty-owl hooty-hoos to the dove,
"Tammy ... Tammy ... Tammy's in love"

Does my lover feel
What I feel
When he comes near?
My heart beats so joyfully,
You'd think that he could hear

Wish I knew if he knew
What I'm dreamin' of
Tammy ... Tammy ... Tammy's in love

Whippoorwill, whippoorwill, you and I know
Tammy ... Tammy ... can't let him go
The breeze from the bayou keeps murmuring low:
"Tammy ... Tammy ... you love him so"

When the night is warm,
Soft and warm,
I long for his charms
I'd sing like a violin
If I were in his arms

Wish I knew if he knew
What I'm dreaming of
Tammy ... Tammy ... Tammy's in love

------
Note: From the 1957 film "Tammy and the Bachelor,"
starring Debbie Reynolds, Leslie Nielsen, and Walter
Brennan. Reynolds' single of this song spent 23 weeks on
the "Top 40" charts, starting 07/22/57. It was #1 for five weeks.
It was also nominated for a "Best Song" Academy Award for
1957 (but lost to "All the Way" from the film "The Joker is
Wild.")

Jeffrey Gaines - In Your Eyes

I saw Jeffrey Gaines for the first time about, oh I guess its been about 17 years or so ago. He opened for Melissa Etheridge. He walked on the stage to play. It was just him, his guitar, and his feedback monitor. I was blown away. If you get the chance, go back and check out some of his early stuff. Its good listening.

Paul Young - Come Back And Stay (The Seaside Video)

This is the song that started this new idea of mine. A great tune from the '80s that I still love to hear.

The Music of my Life

I'm driving around in my car today, listening to my XM. I LOVE my XM. Anyway, I'm thinking about how music really has a connection to my life. I don't play an instrument. I can't sing worth diddly. But it touches me. I'm almost to the point where I believe that I was a musician in a past life, but did something so nasty that I can't do anything musically in this life.

But I digress. Sometimes a song comes on the radio and it makes me want to crank it up and howl at the top of my lungs. Sometimes a song will come on that make me depressed. I wanted to share the songs that touch me each day.

So, the plan is to find the song on youtube and then share it here. I still have to figure out how to add the youtube stuff on here. I have it on the side bar, but there's got to be another way. I want it in the middle. I also want it up for more than a day. Wonder if I will figure out how to do it.

Let's see how long this blog actually lasts.
